Chelsea’s Asian Star initiative was recognised with the ‘Special Recognition’ Award at the Asian Football Awards in November 2017 and in 2018, the programme will return for a 10th successive year.
The initiative made its Stamford Bridge debut in June 2017, having been staged at our Cobham training base for each of the previous eight seasons.
Asian Star is open to boys with Asian heritages and of all abilities aged 9 to 12 and is designed to give a much-needed boost to Asian participation at all levels of the game.
Players with a background from counties affiliated with the Asian Confederation (AFC) are eligible but priority will be given to players from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
A fun, engaging and free event, players who excel on the day will be offered a year-long placement at one of our Foundation Development Centres.
Asian Star was launched in 2009 and has grown in size ever since, attracting more than 350 young players and their parents to Stamford Bridge in June, where they competed in a series of matches and test to examine speed, skill and ability under the watchful eye of Chelsea Foundation coaches.
The Chelsea Foundation’s dedicated coaches all hold valid DBS, FA Coaching, Safeguarding Children and First Aid certificates to ensure the highest level of both coaching and safety.
