Guangzhou R&F Football Club

Football Club Partner

In May 2013, Chelsea Football Club and Guangzhou R&F FC announced the opening of R&F Chelsea FC Soccer School in the Guangdong Province of China.

The school is a high-level management school combined with boarding and non-boarding mode, offering courses according to the primary school standard in Guangdong Province. As well as the sporting opportunities, the school also excels in education with pupils at the school collecting a grand average of 85.4 in English for standardised tests organised by the Meixian District, while grade six pupils got a grand average of 83.9 in Chinese, going a long way to changing the outside opinion that students who play football could not study well.

More information on the R&F Chelsea FC Soccer School can be found here.

The announcement from May 2013 read:

The school, based in Yanyang Town, Meixian, Meizhou will recruit more than 200 students aged between nine and 12, and will provide excellent academic education and lifestyle coaching as well as first-class technical training as they learn to play 'the Chelsea way'.

Meizhou has been referred to as the 'home of Chinese football', and Guangzhou R&F Properties has worked alongside the Chinese government since 2011 to try and establish a local dedicated soccer school.

The partnership will be an excellent addition to Chelsea's existing soccer schools across Asia, with existing sites in Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand, as well as one due to open in Jakarta prior to our summer tour of the region.

Ron Gourlay, Chief Executive of Chelsea Football Club, said: 'After months of planning, it is fantastic to see this exciting project come to fruition. Chelsea Soccer School China will be the perfect venue for Chelsea's experienced coaches to run training sessions, and for young people to train the way Chelsea's players do. I am confident that a legacy will be left here for years to come.'
