Chelsea
Signed in August 2011, Romelu, who was born i Antwerp, Belgium on 13 May 1993, has been a Chelsea fan since childhood when he recalls enjoying watching Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scoring goals at Stamford Bridge, and he has also confessed to a love of Didier Drogba, whom he used to sit alongside in the Cobham dressing room prior to the Ivorian's departure.

The 6ft 4ins Belgian came off the bench for his Chelsea debut against Norwich in late August during the 2011/12 campaign, and impressed with his powerful play and direct running, before another substitute appearance at Old Trafford and a first start in the Carling Cup against Fulham, where he played the full 120 minutes with extra-time despite lacking match fitness.

Chances in the first team have been limited, with his only three starts coming in the Carling Cup before our exit to Liverpool. His best spell in terms of minutes on the field came in January, when Drogba and Salomon Kalou were absent at the African Nations Cup, and he supported Fernando Torres from the bench. The young Belgian has had to be patient, however, using his frequent reserve appearances to send timely reminders to the manager, including his recent brace in a 4-2 win at Newcastle and two assists in a 2-2 draw at Swansea City.

On the final day of the season, Lukaku started for the first team against Blackburn Rovers and crossed for John Terry to open the scoring.

Lukaku was a member of the first team squad which travelled to America for our two-week pre-season tour ahead of the 2012/13 campaign where he netted a brace in our opening game, a 4-2 win against Seattle Sounders.

However, in August 2012 the decision was made to send Lukaku on a season-long loan to West Bromwich Albion.

The Belgian has flourished during his loan spell at the Hawthorns, establishing himself as a regular in Steve Clarke's side and scoring crucial goals.

Lukaku impressed to such an extent he was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, while also winning the West Brom Young Player of the Year award.

He finished the season with 17 goals from 38 appearances for his loan club, including a hat-trick as a second-half substitute against Manchester United on the final day.

Pre-Chelsea
On top clubs' radars for what seemed like an eternity, Romelu made his Anderlecht debut while still at school aged 16. He has long been touted as 'the new Drogba'.

The son of a former Zaire international, Roger, he averaged nearly a goal every two games during his two-year spell in the Belgian league, having started his youth career with local side Rupel Boom before being scouted by Lierse, only for Anderlecht to snap him up in 2006. He scored 16 times in 37 league games in his final season in Belgium.

International
Already capped at Under-21 level, Romelu was called into the full Belgian squad before his 17th birthday, and netted his first goals in November 2010 in a friendly against Russia. By the time he signed for Chelsea he had already won 10 caps.

He came on as a late substitute in the June friendly against England and almost scored, only to see his effort blocked by club teammate Ashley Cole.
