The inside on Inter Forever
news Thu 17 May 2018
The Chelsea Legends team taking part in tomorrow evening’s game at Stamford Bridge is full of familiar faces, but what are our opponents Inter Forever all about?
To find out, we spoke to Francesco Toldo, their famous former Italy international goalkeeper, who will be one of the Inter Forever players in action in the game, along with the likes of Javier Zanetti, Youri Djorkaeff, Jurgen Klinsmann, Marco Materazzi and Olivier Dacourt…
Francesco, would you tell us what Inter Forever is all about?
Inter Forever is a project linked to the ex-players of Inter. Inter has had so many great champions and this project brings them together. We didn’t call it Inter Legends because we also consider those who have made just a few appearances, not only the great legends.
Is the chance to play Chelsea a big game for Inter Forever?
Yes. Chelsea represent – like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Barcelona – the top clubs in Europe that have a project linked to their ex-players. It’s a shame to see players that, when they finish their careers, are not linked to their clubs. We managed to keep them inside the family, therefore for us Chelsea represents an important game, which is most importantly about charity before and after, but during the game we are always competitive.
Chelsea’s team will be managed by Gianluca Vialli, who you know plenty about. He’s going to take this seriously, isn’t he?
And so are we! As I said, before the game: charity and fun. During the game: not fun – competition! Later: fun.
Is there anyone in the Chelsea team you’re looking forward to seeing again?
Yes, there are players like Gianfranco Zola, Gianluca Vialli, also Tore Andre Flo. We all know each other anyway. It’s also important to have a sense of irony about it and to know not to take it too seriously when it is for a good cause – it will help fund the Chelsea Foundation.
