Conte: Great commitment

Antonio Conte was impressed with the way his players put the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League out of their mind to finish the season with a trophy.

At the end of a challenging campaign, the Blues have still emerged from 2017/18 with silverware to our name, thanks to Saturday's 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

With the squad no doubt still hurting from missing out on a top-four place in the Premier League in the last week of the season, Conte was happy to see them dig deep to win at Wembley, righting one of the wrongs from last season in the process, following our defeat to Arsenal in the 2017 final.

'Last season, despite our win in the league, we weren't able to win this competition,' said the Italian. 'We must be pleased because when you win in a difficult season like this it means there is great work behind it, there is great commitment from my players.

'In this season, with my staff, we are working more than last season, because when you face difficulties you must be prepared to work very hard to overcome these difficulties. I must be honest, in this season the mountain to climb was very high, but despite this we finished by lifting an important trophy like the FA Cup.'

He also insists that the team are capable of better in the future, but committed to a game plan against the Red Devils which would give them the best chance of leaving Wembley with the trophy.

'I cannot change my personality, I cannot change my idea of football, but I could find the right way to win this trophy,' explained Conte. 'For sure, we can play better than this after this game, but right now the real situation was this – we had to play strong defensively if we wanted to win a trophy.

'Maybe we missed the Champions League in this season because sometimes we tried to play very open and, in this moment, you can't do that, especially against a strong team.'
