Willian: Aiming for big pitch perfect

Willian, a player at the top of his form and with five goals to his name in the past five games, wants to continue the run against Barcelona tomorrow but he accepts he and his colleagues have much work to do without the ball as well.

The Brazilian spoke to the media before a training session inside the Camp Nou, shortly after arriving in Spain on Tuesday evening, and one of the first questions he faced was about his goalscoring.

‘Of course I am happy with my form at the moment and I am happy with the goals that I scored,’ Willian said, ‘but I want more, as do the team as well. We come here and of course we respect Barcelona, they have great players and are a big club, like Chelsea is a big club as well. Tomorrow we want do a perfect job to go through to the next round.

‘We know here the pitch is big and we have to stay together and try as hard as we can not to concede goals and to go for the counter-attack as well.’

Willian was also asked for thoughts on two famous Barcelona players, one who is expected to play tomorrow, Lionel Messi, after missing their last game due to the birth of a child, and one who is an injury doubt, Andres Iniesta.

‘We know the quality of Messi and of Barcelona, they have a lot of players with great quality. Of course we have to keep our eyes on Messi because he is great and he can do whatever he wants on the pitch, so we have to prepare ourselves to look at him but the whole team of Barcelona as well.

‘Of course Iniesta is a great player but Barcelona have many players who can come to the pitch and do the same job as Iniesta has being doing for a lot of years. We have to do the same job we did at Stamford Bridge because we want to go through. Of course Iniesta is an important player but they have a lot of good players so we have to do a good effort tomorrow.’
