Kirby: Megastore, more games and more goals

Ahead of her appearance in the Chelsea Megastore today, Fran Kirby looks back at her match-winning turn at the weekend and forward to this weekend's FA Cup tie at home to Doncaster.

The Blues centre-forward will be joined by team-mate Karen Carney at Stamford Bridge for a signing session and Q&A, with the fun kicking off at 4pm.

It's been a busy few weeks for Kirby both on and off the pitch, as she has continued her goalscoring form this season and has also penned her first blog for this website, and she was delighted that her latest strike, against Birmingham City, helped us to another three points in the WSL1 on Saturday.

'In the first half we were really dominant and we created a lot of chances,' she said of the game at Solihull Moors, which was the scene of our Spring Series triumph last year.

'We managed to get the goal, which killed their momentum a little bit, and then they looked to get back into it in the second half but Ji scoring really knocked it out of them. It was a professional performance and we were happy with it.

'There could have been more goals – in this team we are going to create chances and for us we just want to score as many goals as we can. Whoever scores the goals, it's obviously better to win.

While the fixtures continue to come thick and fast, with big matches against league leaders Manchester City and French side Montpellier on the horizon, Kirby and the squad will not be getting ahead of themselves.

The focus is purely on the next game, which for the Blues comes in front of our supporters at Kingsmeadow on Sunday when we host Doncaster Rovers Belles in the fifth round of the Women's FA Cup.

'We've had a lot of games back-to-back, a lot of travelling, so it's a crucial point of the season,' Kirby said. 'But we're just taking each game as it comes – whether it's Man City, Montpellier or Donny Belles, we'll take each game seriously.'
