The Boys Next Door: Danny Drinkwater

In our feature asking the players for insight into the team-mates they sit next to in the changing room at Cobham, we hear from Danny Drinkwater on his neighbours Gary Cahill and Toni Rudiger…

WHO IS NORMALLY FIRST IN AT COBHAM IN THE MORNINGS?

It’s between Gaz and Toni that one. I’m usually the last to leave after training, but they’re usually the first in.

ARE THEY TIDY OR MESSY NEIGHBOURS?

They’re both pretty clean to be fair, yeah.

TELL US SOMETHING WE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT EACH OF THEM…

Toni is a very funny character, a funny guy.

Gaz is quite funny in his own way to be fair! I get on sound with him, he’s a good lad. He’s helped me settle in a lot, but so has everyone in the dressing room. It’s a good dressing room.

WHO SPENDS THE LONGEST LOOKING IN THE MIRROR OR LOOKING AFTER THEIR APPEARANCE?

I don’t know about the mirror, but I know Toni’s hair is always proper sharp. He always has a fresh trim does Toni.

FAVOURITE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION?

I have got to say football, haven’t I?! Or probably my accent. It’s pretty strong, so they complain about that a lot. Toni understands it, but he takes the mick out of it!

BEST THING ABOUT EACH OF THEM AS A NEIGHBOUR?

Gaz is easy to have a conversation with. You can talk to him about anything. And Toni can crack a joke out of nowhere.

ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE?

Everything! Nah, I’m joking. Nothing at all. They’re both top lads.

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WHEN…

Toni has chipped in with a couple of important goals already. Gaz is obviously skipper and he’s a good leader.

DO YOU LIKE THEIR MUSIC?

Me and Gaz have similar tastes, normal chart music. Toni is into his rap. He does a great impression of ‘Man’s Not Hot’ by Big Shaq. It’s absolutely quality. I haven’t heard any German music yet…

LET’S TALK CLOTHES...

I don’t really see gear because when I get in, everyone is changed, and when I go home, everyone has gone!

DO YOU SEE EACH OTHER AWAY FROM THE CLUB?

I’ve met Gaz out for food, yeah, with some friends after games.
