PL2 preview: Taking on the Toffees

It's fifth versus first in Premier League 2 as our development squad host Everton in their final home game of the campaign...

The form

Everton are the league leaders and can seal the title with a win tonight. They sit five points clear of second-placed Manchester City and follow this trip south with a Merseyside derby to conclude the campaign in early May. David Unsworth’s side have won eight of their past nine PL2 games, although two of their three defeats have come on the road.

Adi Viveash’s young side have had a more mixed season as a nine-game unbeaten stretch from September to February was abruptly halted with three losses in four. However, they returned to winning ways last time out by beating Sunderland 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The reverse fixture

The points were split when the teams met at Southport on Halloween night, Dujon Sterling’s early opener cancelled out in the final minutes of the first half. Kurt Zouma and Marco van Ginkel featured for the visitors, as did Fankaty Dabo, Fikayo Tomori , Mukhtar Ali and Jay Dasilva.

The latter quintet have all since made loan moves as their development continues in a different environment, while a pair of Toffees starters, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, have 27 Premier League appearances and three goals between them this term.
