Calling the Shots: Asmir Begovic

Asmir Begovic has cast an eye over his personal Instagram account and picked out some of his favourite snaps.
Included in his selections are well-known football faces, stunning scenery and a very special penalty taker...
This was at our game against Sunderland last month. It was a very special night for young Bradley Lowery, and it was a pleasure to be involved. He put a good penalty past me and got a great reception from both sets of fans which made it very memorable for him.
You don’t want to take pictures with everybody but when a legend like Andrea Pirlo comes to the training ground you can’t help yourself. I had a chance to speak to him before training and picking his brains was really interesting as he’s one of the best to have played the game. He was a great guy and it’s a nice memory. I don’t think I ever played against him, which is probably a good thing as he might have put a free-kick past me. I think most of the players had a picture with him, which shows the level of respect he commands.
This was at the opening of a play area in Bosnia, which was organised through my Foundation. We’re really proud of that, and all the work we do, and it’s a lasting legacy for the people of Tuzla. It’s nice that it all came together well, the children had a great day and the people there were really kind towards us, which made it very fulfilling. It’s great that the kids will be able to use it going forward.
This was on our summer tour. We had an afternoon off in Minneapolis and I’m a big baseball fan so we went to watch a game. I got to meet Max Kepler, one of the rookies for the Minnesota Twins, and he showed me around all the facilities. I got to meet a few of the other players as well so it was a great day for a baseball nut like myself, I certainly didn’t take it for granted.
I had a call from Steve Nash, who is one of my all-time favourite basketball players. He puts a charity game on in New York every summer, the Steve Nash showdown, and he asked me to take part. They play in a park in the city and it was a great couple of days. Jason Sudeikis, an American actor/comedian was there and the likes of Salomon Kalou, Landon Donovan and Giuseppe Rossi, as well as a couple of basketball players, all played, so it was a great turnout.
This was taken at the tennis last summer, there was a break in play due to the rain so I grabbed the opportunity to have a photo with David Beckham. We had a little chat about football, he was there with one of his boys and he was a really nice guy.
Šteta zbog poraza, ali važno je da vidimo i pozitivne i negativne stvari prije početka kvalifikacija. Čast mi je da sam odigrao jubilarnu 50. utakmicu za moju zemlju. Hvala vam na sjajnoj podršci! Tough result today but we will learn from this. Very proud and honoured to have played my 50th game for my country today. Thanks to @sellsgoalkeeperproducts and @nikefootball for my special gloves and boots. 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
This was a friendly last summer against Spain. Unfortunately we lost 3-1 but it was my 50th cap and those kind of landmarks are pretty cool. I framed the gloves I wore so that's a nice memento. The game actually took place in Switzerland, at a neutral venue. Cesc, Azpi and Pedro were playing for Spain and Pedro managed to sneak one past me late in the game, which was unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes for goalkeepers.
This was on holiday in Porto Cervo, in Sardinia. My wife took the photo, which was probably a good thing as I don’t really have an eye for that type of stuff. It was a lovely place to visit. It was the first time I’d been there, a very romantic place, and we had a great time.
